Researcher for Tony Blair MP from 1987 to 1994. Membership secretary of Sedgefield Constituency Labour Party. Political Assistant to the General Secretary of the Labour Party 1994 to 1999. Public relations executive for Brunswick group. 

Trimdon parish councillor. Member of the TGWU section of Unite.

The main themes of his campaign were:

• Crack down on anti-social behaviour.

• We need to improve local youth services and facilities.

• I will fight to tackle run down shops and poor housing in our area.
