Colin Paisley
Former member of the Labour Party. Served on Carlisle District Council 1986 - 1998 and was Mayor of Carlisle in 1994-95. Now a member of the Liberal Party, he had special permission to contest the by-election for the LGA, because there was no Liberal candidate.
The main themes of his campaign were:
Prohibition has not worked, make cannabis legal.
Make cannabis available for medical use.
Stop punishing people for 'crimes' which have no victims.
