Dick Rodgers
Former orthopaedic surgeon at Birmingham Childrens Hospital. An Anglican Assistant Clergyman, he spent 46 days in a cage as part of a campaign for the release of prisoners of conscience in the USSR. Contested the 2004 European election as an Independent candidate in the West Midlands region.
The main themes of his campaign were:
Having a purpose in life is the answer to drugs and crime.
We need to restore honour to old age.
Let Hartlepool's young people know they are needed.
