Frances Curran

Frances Curran, 47, was born in Glasgow and educated at St Andrews Secondary School in Glasgow . She lives with her partner and is a member of the National Union of Journalists. She worked from 1983 as an Organiser in various socialist political organisations, youth trade union rights campaign, youth against racism. 

She is a former left-wing member of Labour's national executive but left to joined the Scottish Socialist Alliance. She contested Paisley South at the 1997 Westminster by-election and again in 2001 and 2003. She was second on the SSP Glasgow list in 1999 and was elected a Holyrood MSP in 2003 from first place on the West of Scotland SSP list. 

In 2006 she announced that she would be standing down for personal reasons. She is currently a joint-leader of the SSP.
