Margaret Curran

Margaret Curran, 49, was educated at Our Lady and St Francis School, Glasgow. She graduated from Glasgow University where she studied History and Economic History and Dundee Collage where she obtained a Certificate in Community Education. She worked from 1982 - 1983 as a Welfare Rights Officer, from 1983-1987 as a Community Worker and from 1987 - 1989 as a Senior Community Worker, all in the Social Work Department of Strathclyde Regional Council. From 1989 - 1999 she was a Lecturer in Community Education at the Jordanhill Campus of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow .

Ms Curran has been the MSP for Glasgow Baillieston since the first elections to the Scottish Parliament in 1999, later holding positions as Deputy Minister for Social Justice and Minister for Communities. She is married with two sons and is a member of the TGWU and the EIS.
